Overclock An Abit

Overclocking your ABIT motherboard is the process of accelerating the default clock frequencies, set by the manufacturer, to enhance performance. Manufacturers set clock frequencies of their products lower than full potential to increase their life and to ensure performance stability. ABIT has designed a simple-to-use BIOS configuration menu to make overclocking options for any ABIT motherboard easily available. However, overclocking is far from easy; it takes multiple attempts to get right, and could result in irreversible heat damage if done wrong. Only attempt to overclock your ABIT motherboard if you feel comfortable or have experience overclocking.


Instructions


1. Restart your computer and press the "Delete" key on your keyboard during start-up to access BIOS.


2. Navigate, using the arrow keys, to "uGuru Utility" and press "Enter," then confirm your selection. Navigate to the "OC Guru" page located on the top of the "uGuru Utility" page using the left and right "Arrow" keys to access advanced overclocking options. Alternatively, if you have an older ABIT motherboard, overclocking options will be available in the "Advanced" or "Frequency/Voltage Control." Both will be located on the main menu page of BIOS (The rest of the steps will remain the same for any ABIT motherboard).


3. Navigate to "External Clock," press "Enter" and increase the value by only 10 MHz at a time; for example, from 200 MHz to 210 MHz. Navigate to the "Multiplier Factor," press "Enter" and change the value by an increment of only 0.5 at a time; for instance, from X11.0 to X11.5. Navigate to the main menu page and choose the "Save and Exit" option (your computer will restart and implement your custom configurations).


4. Download and install Prime 95, a free overclock testing tool. Open the program, click on the "Options" tab and select the "Torture Test." Click on the "Start" button to initiate the test. Run the test for at least 30 minutes, preferably over an hour. If your computer retains stability and doesn't crash, restart it and re-enter BIOS.


5. Repeat steps 2 and 3. Run Prime 95 and initiate the "Torture Test." If your computer continues to retain stability, increase the values in BIOS again. Repeat this process until you find the optimum performance configuration for your computer. If you overclock too much and your computer can't retain performance stability during the "Torture Test," restart it and lower the values in BIOS to the last stable level.
