Open a Pavilion dv8000 Case

The HP Pavilion dv8000 laptop comes equipped with a 17-inch screen. It runs on a 1.8 gigahertz AMD Turion-64 ML-32 processor, 512 megabytes of RAM and a 4200 RPM hard drive. You may need to open the HP Pavilion for troubleshooting or upgrade procedures. Keep in mind that opening the case may void the warranty for your HP Pavilion Dv8000.

Instructions

1. Shut down your HP Pavilion dv8000. Unplug it from the power adapter. Turn the laptop over. Move the battery latch to the left. Lift the battery out of the HP Pavilion.

2. Remove the three screws securing the hard drive panel on the bottom of the laptop and the two screws on the memory module panel. Lift up both panel covers. Unscrew the four retaining screws on the hard drive. Remove the hard drive from the Pavilion. Push the tabs on the memory modules to opposite sides. Slide the RAM out of the laptop.

3. Remove the five screws on the switch cover, running along the hinge area of the laptop. Turn the computer over. Open the lid. Use a flat-head screwdriver to lift the hinge covers off of the Pavilion dv8000. Pull off the cover. Close the lid.
