Open A Gateway Laptop Case To Fix The Inverter

Open a Gateway Laptop Case to Fix the Inverter

Gateway laptops use liquid crystal display (LCD) screens that are powered by a back light. For the back light to work properly, an inverter must be connected to a small circuit board underneath the screen. If your back light isn't working properly, you may need to repair or replace the inverter by opening up your laptop's case and removing part of the screen.

Instructions

1. Turn off the laptop, unplug the power cable and then remove the battery. Pull open the top half so that the screen is up and facing toward you. Pull out the rubber stoppers along the sides of the LCD screen. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws underneath the rubber stoppers.

2. Slide the edge of the screwdriver or another flat object (such as a table knife) aunderneath the plastic bezel on the bottom half of the laptop that meets with the screen. Carefully pop off the bezel and set it aside. Use the screwdriver to pull out the three screws underneath the bezel.

3. Pop off the bezel carefully and set it aside. Use the screwdriver to pull out the three screws underneath the bezel.

4. Pull out the metal hinges that were held down by the screws and were connected to the top half of the laptop. Pull off the plastic cover over the LCD screen that was held in place by the hinges.

5. Wiggle the inverter board back and forth, and carefully pull it up and off the bottom of the LCD screen. Pull off the two connector cables that are located on either side of the inverter board, then remove it from the laptop.
