PSP homebrew allows users to take advantage of the PSP Slim to run unsigned code, such as games and applications on the device. However, since Sony introduced upgraded security features in version 1.51 of the PSP firmware, most homebrew software is only compatible with firmware versions 1.50 or older. Unfortunately, by downgrading the PSP firmware to version 1.50 you could be prevented from playing newly released games and using some applications. But, by running homebrew on the PSP Slim you can gain access to a huge selection of classic games and useful applications that would not otherwise be available.
Instructions
1. Download a version of PSP homebrew. Check the resources section for a link to a website where you can download PSP homebrew. Most PSP homebrew files come in a compressed format.
2. Extract the PSP homebrew folder to a location where you can easily find it. The homebrew folder should contain a file called "eboot.pbp." If you do not have extraction software installed on your computer, check the resources section for a website where you can download it.
3. Connect the PSP to the computer using a USB cable.
4. Go to the PSP home screen on your PSP Slim and scroll over to the "Settings" section on the far left. Select "USB Connection" from the Settings menu. This will put your PSP into USB Mode so you can view the files stored on the PSP memory stick through the computer.
5. Access the PSP memory stick on the computer. It should show up as a "Removable Disc"or "Memory Stick" on the list of storage devices.
6. Click the "PSP" folder. Inside the PSP folder there should be a number of other folders labeled "Music", "Photo", "SAVEDATA", and so on. Look for the folder called "Game150" and open it. If the folder does not exist on your PSP, you can create a new folder and name it "Game150."
7. Drag and drop the homebrew folder into the "Game150" folder.
8. Create another folder inside your "PSP" folder and label it "ISO." This is the folder where you will store the .ISO versions of games so you can play them on your PSP.
9. Drag and drop the .ISO files from your computer to the "ISO" folder on your PSP.
10. Go back to the PSP home screen on your PSP Slim and scroll over to the right to get to the "Game" section. Select the "Memory Stick" option to bring up a list of the .ISO games you put on the PSP. Highlight the name of the game you want to play and press the "Select" button to bring up the M33 VSH menu. From the menu, highlight the option for "UMD ISO Mode" and change the selection to "M33 driver."
11. Select the "Reset Device" option from the M33 VSH menu.
12. Go back to the list of games on the memory card, highlight the game you selected and press the "X" button. You can now play the game through homebrew.
