Correct the VGA connection on your computer system.
The VGA connector on a computer is built into the video card, allowing the system the ability to connect to outside video equipment, such as a monitor. However, if the monitor is not functioning properly and the issue is not due to the monitor, you may have a bad VGA connector. To correct this problem you need to install a new VGA video card connector into the computer.
Instructions
1. Insert the video card driver into the disc drive of the computer. In a moment the driver installation wizard will load onto the screen. Although you typically install the driver after hooking up the hardware, the new VGA video card (and connected monitor) is not going to work without the driver first installed, leaving you with no video source (making it extremely hard to install anything).
2. Click "Next," then accept the end-user agreement, leave the installation name and location as is, then choose "Install" to install the VGA video card drivers onto the computer system.
3. Power down the computer system, disconnect the cables inserted into the computer, then remove the Phillips screws along the side of the case.
4. Slide the case open and look toward the back of the computer. Along the motherboard are horizontal connection ports, known as PCI card slots. Locate the VGA video card (look on the exterior of the computer for the VGA port, if you are unsure of where the card is).
5. Push down on the plastic levers located on each side of the card slot. This unlocks the card from the slot. Slide the card out of the slot, then insert the new VGA video card.
6. Push the plastic levers back up to lock the card into place, then close the computer case, tighten the Phillips screws and connect the cables back into the computer.
