SATA hard drives are easily installed in a computer.
Serial Advanced Technology Attachment (SATA) is a fast, large-storage hard drive you can install in your personal computer. Western Digital OEM SATA hard drives are more easily installed in a computer than the older IDE hard drives. SATA drives include different manufacturers and storage capacities, but each drive is installed using the same steps. The drive connects to your motherboard and power supply, taking only a few minutes of your time.
Instructions
1. Remove the screws on the computer case using the screwdriver. Set these screws aside in a safe location, so you do not lose them. Slide the computer case cover off of the machine to expose the internal hardware for your computer.
2. Insert the drive into a bay on the front of your hard drive case. If this is a secondary drive, a bay is usually available underneath the current drive. Use the screws included with your hard drive package to fasten the hard drive to the computer case bay.
3. Insert one end of the SATA hard drive cable to the SATA connection on your motherboard. The SATA connection is labeled on the motherboard. If you have a hard drive installed, you can quickly find the SATA connections by following the cable from the existing drive to your motherboard. Adjacent to this cable is another SATA connection.
4. Insert the other end of the SATA cable to the back of your hard drive. This ensures the connection between your hard drive and computer motherboard. At the top of your computer case is the power supply with several power cable connections. Insert one of these cables into the power connection on the back of the hard drive.
5. Replace the computer case cover and fasten it with the screws you removed in step one. Turn on the computer and view the startup text. Notice that the computer identifies the newly installed hard drive, which means it has been successfully installed.
