Install Asus Motherboards

A main component when building a computer is the motherboard; without it, nothing else could run. Installing a motherboard properly allows the rest of the computer components to run smoothly together. This article describes install an ASUS motherboard.

Instructions

Installing the Processor

1. The CPU should be the first thing that is installed into the motherboard. If there is a clip for the processor, open it and remove the plastic place holder. Align the processor properly and close the clip to secure the processor in place.

2. Many processors are accompanied by a cooing device, such as heat sinks or fans. If the cooling device comes with a back plate, stick it to the back of the motherboard.

3. In order to have proper cooling, it is recommended to use thermal paste. Put an amount smaller than a pea directly onto the processor, then either clip or screw the cooling device into place.

Installing the Motherboard into the case

4. The ASUS motherboard should come with small hexagonal pegs. Screw these into the appropriate places in the case. Although these spots are labeled in the case, it may be necessary to place the motherboard in the case to make sure.

5. Place the motherboard into the case onto the pegs. Align the screw holes to match the pegs beneath the board.

6. Using the screws that came with the motherboard, screw the board into place. Make sure to tighten just enough. If the screws are overtightened, the board may crack.

Installing the components

7. All the components of the computer need to be connected into the motherboard. Start with the power supply cords. Make sure to connect the 24-pin Power connector as well as processor power connectors if applicable.

8. Connect the SATA cords for the hard drive(s) and other disc drives (CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, Burners). Make sure to read the manual to connect the main hard drive into the "Master" slot. Connect the other drives into the appropriate slots in the motherboard

9. Connect the case wires. The wires should be connected with the letter facing the top of the case. Use the manual to find the appropriate location for each case.

10. Install the PCI cards into the corresponding slots. This will require the removal of the metal place holders on the case for most computer cases.

11. Install the RAM into the slots. Verify with the manual to see if the RAM needs to be installed into specific slots.
