Overclock the AMD 64X2 to gain increased performance.
CPUs are the heart of a PC, and their performance and speed directly determine the operational speed of the PC. The process known as overclocking takes a CPU past the normal manufacturer speed limits imposed on the unit. The computer holding the overclocked CPU gains increased speed, at the cost of increased heat output from the CPU. Overclocking a CPU like the AMD 64X2 involves manipulating primarily the front bus speed and CPU multiplier frequency through the PC's boot menu.
Instructions
1. Boot the computer connected to the AMD 64X2. Press the appropriate key to enter the system's boot menu. The most common keys used are F11, F8, and the Esc key. From the boot menu choose "BIOS Features" or "BIOS Setup," depending on the computer system used.
2. Enter the "External Bus" tab of the boot menu. Select the number in the "Front Bus Speed" section. Increase the value one level by pressing the "UP" arrow key. This speeds up the front bus of the AMD 64X2.
3. Enter the "CPU Core" tab of the boot menu. Select the number in the "Multiplier" section. Increase the value one level by pressing the "UP" arrow key. This sets the CPU frequency multiplier.
4. Navigate to the main boot menu tab. Press "Apply Changes" and then "Exit." When the PC system finishes booting, the AMD 64X2 is overclocked.
