Motherboard replacement on a laptop computer, such as an Asus laptop, is a serious undertaking because it involves near total disassembly of the computer. But even though the process can be time intensive, it doesn't require many tools. It can also be completed even if you don't know much about computers.
Instructions
1. Turn off your Asus laptop and remove the power cable. Close the LCD display and turn the laptop upside down.
2. Unplug the battery from the compartment on the bottom of the computer.
3. Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw holding the hard drive compartment cover in place. The hard drive compartment is the largest of the upgrade compartments on the bottom of the computer.
4. Remove the hard drive compartment cover, slide the rectangular hard drive out of the compartment and set it aside.
5. Remove all remaining screws on the bottom of the laptop and set them aside.
6. Turn the computer right-side up and open the LCD display. Locate the rectangular panel that sits above the keyboard.
7. Insert the tip of your flat-head screwdriver in the gap where the rectangular panel meets the body of the computer. Pry up to pop it out of place and remove it.
8. Remove the screws above the keyboard with your Phillips screwdriver.
9. Lift the keyboard up from the top and unplug the keyboard cable from its port on the top of the computer. Set the keyboard aside.
10. Lift the top case off of the computer by its sides and remove the screws from the metal panel on top of the computer. Remove the metal panel and set it aside. The motherboard is now visible in the body of the computer.
11. Unplug all cables running from the bottom of the LCD screen that connect to ports on the top of the motherboard.
12. Remove the screws from the square fan assembly and remove the fan assembly from the motherboard.
13. Remove all screws from the motherboard and remove the motherboard from the computer.
14. Fit a new motherboard in the old one's place and reverse the steps for reassembly.
