The Abit NF7 is an ATX form factor PC-compatible motherboard, designed to accept "Socket A" AMD processors. The Abit NF7 features a NVIDIA nForce2 SPP chipset, on-board Dolby Digital 5-1 audio processing, provisions for up to 3 GB of DDR SDRAM and AGP 8X video support. The motherboard also includes a single internal FDD header, allowing users to install a standard 3.5-inch 1.44 or 2.88 floppy disk drive. Connecting a floppy disk drive (FDD) to your NF7 is an easy task that only takes a few minutes to complete.
Instructions
1. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cable from the rear. Disconnect any accessories connected to the computer.
2. Place the computer on a flat, non-conductive work surface, such as a wooden kitchen table or work bench.
3. Remove the screws securing the left side panel to the computer chassis, using an appropriate size Phillips head screwdriver; certain computer cases may feature thumbscrews, eliminating the need for a screwdriver. If the computer does not have a removable left side panel, remove each screw securing the case cover, located around the rear perimeter of the case chassis.
4. Slide the chassis cover from the computer to expose the motherboard. Examine the drive bay area. Certain computer case manufacturers include "slide-lock" mechanisms, designed to secure internal drives to the computer chassis, instead of conventional screws.
5. Remove the right and top case covers if the drive bays require the use of conventional screws to secure internal drive devices to the chassis. If the drive bays use "slide-lock" mechanisms, disregard this step.
6. Pry off the small rectangular 3.5-inch blank cover, located at the front of the computer case, using a flathead screwdriver. Remove the small piece of sheet metal behind the blank drive cover, if applicable.
7. Slide the floppy disk drive into the appropriate drive bay. You must insert the rear side of the drive through the front-drive bay opening. Be sure the small LED on the floppy drive is positioned to the bottom left for proper orientation.
8. Connect one end of the FDD ribbon cable to the corresponding female FDD header on the motherboard, labeled "FDC1." Take note that both the ribbon cable and motherboard header feature a special notch, designed to prevent improper connections. If the ribbon cable does not feature a notch, make sure the striped wire end of the cable connects to the "1" located next to the FDD header.
9. Connect the remaining end of the FDD cable to the rear of the floppy disk drive, using the same methods outlined in the previous Step.
10. Connect an available power supply wire connector to the power header located at the rear of the floppy disk drive. The floppy drive and power connector use a special design that prevents improper, or reversed, connections.
11. Slide the floppy disk drive into the final position, with the front of the drive flush with the front panel.
12. Secure two of the four screws supplied with the floppy drive to the left portion of the drive bay, using an appropriate size Phillips head screwdriver. Secure the right side of the drive to the drive bay with the remaining two screws. If the case features a "slide-lock" mechanism, simply slide the mechanism to the "Locked" position to secure the drive.
13. Replace the side covers and screws. Reconnect the power cable and peripherals to complete the installation process.
