Fix An Xbox 360 Elite Controller

Try simple troubleshooting tips to fix your Xbox 360 controller.

There can be nothing more frustrating than having one of your Xbox 360 Elite controllers stop working. But there is usually nothing to worry about. Fixing one of the Xbox 360 controllers is a simple process. Most of the time, there is an issue of not having enough internal battery power to communicate with the Xbox 360. Follow this troubleshooting guide, and you'll be back to climbing the Viva Piñata leaderboards in no time.

Instructions

1. Replace the AA batteries, while making certain that they are correctly placed in the battery case. Test the controller again.

2. Restart the Xbox 360, and press and hold the middle Xbox "Guide" button. The controller should wirelessly connect to the Xbox 360 console, and the button should glow green.

3. Detach the rechargeable battery pack, and reconnect it to the controller. Press the Xbox "Guide" button and look in the upper left corner of the guide for the silhouette of a battery. The battery meter shows the current level of your battery pack's charge. If the pack will not recharge, replace it.

4. Connect an Xbox 360 "Plug and Play" kit to the controller's top and to one of the two USB ports on the front of the Xbox 360. If the controller continues to be unresponsive, try the alternate USB port. If the USB ports do not charge or interact with the controller, the Xbox 360 may need to be replaced.
